I remember my French teacher at school giving good advice on how to deal with people who don't look where they are going. You can see them coming towards you, and you just get that feeling they they don't appreciate a collision is imminent unless one of you does something about it. Typically your shoulder may well be on a collision course with their shoulder. The advice was, just prior to impact, to tense your shoulder just a smidge. Our French teacher assured us the other person would bounce off nicely and spin off to one side, whilst you act surprised and offer your half of the 2 way apology that follows.
