Last time I went salsa dancing I had worked up a mighty sweet with a woman who almost broke me in two (in fairness to me I had just spent a week celebrating my birthday – so I was not in very good shape). I staggered up to the bar (that I had already bought two mojitos from + tip) and asked for water. The guuy pulls out bottled water and I say no thanks…just the tap.
“No… we only sell bottles of water here”.
Now wait a second. Tap water costs you nothing. I paid $5 dollars to get in here. Indeed since then I’ve paid $12 in drinks + $2 in tips, totaling $19 dollars, and you’re going to charge me for something that is free.
I geared up for a major battle of wills and rhetoric…but it seems the look of madness on my face as I held onto the edge of the bar perspiring profusely had an effect. The guy way like, “just forget it, it’s cool,” and covertly sprayed tap water from the soda fountain for me.
I said “thanks” and left feeling victorious.
But then again, tap water is free….
Where is our humanity?
And you know NYC is suppose to have some of the cleanest tap water in the country?
